Services
Days at WICP begin as early as 7:30 a.m., though participants are welcome to arrive later if needed. Breakfast is almost always prepared as a hot meal and is served from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. each morning. Newspaper and light TV programming is often a normal activity around breakfast time.
Following breakfast, participants are reminded to use the restroom or are assisted with toileting. Then the day’s activities begin.
The morning may include an art or music class and a moderate exercise class. Some days there may be crafts, scrapbooking or alternative choices such as sewing club or crossword puzzle club. For those participants who enjoy gardening, our volunteer Master Gardener (also a Master’s level Social Worker) will be on hand for maintaining the container garden, planted and cared for by WICP gardeners.
Lunch is typically served at 11:30 a.m. A sample lunch menu could include baked salmon fillet or chicken fillet, scalloped potatoes, congealed salad or green salad, green beans, roll, and apple pie. Background music adds to the ambiance of our lunch setting.
Early afternoon is the time when we have special guests who add variety to our day. These guests could lead those interested in special classes such as music therapy, an art class, baking cookies, flower arranging or painting a birdhouse. Late afternoon is set aside for winding down the day. A librarian or storyteller may entertain or lead a book review and discussion. Participants may choose board games, cards, or an interactive computer game. Pet Therapy Day brings enjoyment as a Therapy Dog and handler make the rounds to “speak” or “shake hands” with each participant
